Drew Brees was the other quarterback in Super Bowl XLIV. He was not the one being touted as the next Johnny Unitas and Joe Montana all rolled into one.
Brees was just the guy carrying the weight of an entire city and 43 years of miserable history on his shoulders - one of them (the throwing shoulder) so severely damaged at one point not many teams thought he'd ever be an effective NFL starter.
In the end it was Brees who played the near-flawless game that everyone expected out of Peyton Manning, carrying the Saints to a 31-17 victory over Indianapolis.
"We played for so much more than ourselves," Brees said. "We played for our city. We played for the entire Gulf Coast region. We played for the Who Dat Nation. They were behind us every step of the way. We've been blessed just to have this opportunity. It's unbelievable."
