The Curse of Bobby Layne (1958)
After leading the Lions to 3 NFL Championships, the Lions traded QB Bobby Layne to Pittsburgh. Bobby said that Detroit "would not win for 50 years".
The last year of the curse ended with a 0-16 season.
The Lions then draft Stafford as the first overall pick in the 2009 draft. Stafford attended Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas, and won the state football championship. It was the school's first state championship in 48 years… when Bobby Layne played for Highland Park. |
